Fun fact...

Last week, while visiting the China Through The Looking Glass exhibit at the MET, while perusing the Blue and White room filled with Valentino, and Roberto Cavalli,  I stumbled upon two Rodarte dresses that brought back a slew of memories.

Years ago, when I was working at Marie Claire, this Spring 2011 collection from Rodarte was what everyone wanted to shoot.
Finally, I managed to confirm one of the looks for a shoot, but before we could pick-up I had to practically sign my life away - a letter stating that the garments are one of a kind and cannot be repaired, if something happened we would be billed in full for the dress.  It was the first time I had ever come into contact with such a contract for a clothing loan, thus this collection has always left a spark in my mind.

Shoeday Saturday...

Years ago, I made the tragic mistake of buying the Isabel Marant Poppy heels in bright blue suede.  Yes, I own blue suede shoes!  I can't bear the sticker shock of buying them again in black.  Then, on a recent trip to Steven Alan, I came across these from Carven.  The bow is at the heel, making them slightly less prim, the mid heel makes them actually walkable, and thankfully, they only come in black.

Time for a change...

After reading this article, I had to end my fifteen year relationship with my facial cleanser.
Living in New York City, and being exposed to all that has to offer (sun, dirt, grime...) I needed something that would actually cleanse and restore my skin.
Enter BeautyCounter, a company devoted to providing safe, affective skin care.  Their 'Routine Clean' cleanser washes away the days impurities, while leaving your face feeling soft and rejuvenated.

EJT Travels... Tulum

On a recent trip to Mexico, a few of us took a day trip to, much buzzed about, Tulum.
The area is filled with charming boutique hotels, restaurants serving fresh local cuisine, and chic shops filled with local designers mixed with contemporary finds.
Here is a little synopsis of our day in Tulum:

First stop: Lunch at Posada Margherita.  One might say, an Italian restaurant in Mexico? But, the food was simply delicious - I recommend their fish of the day, simply poached in olive oil and garlic, with fresh tomatoes.

The walk from the street entrance is lined with tiny houses for hotel guests.
Along this path is also the hotels boutique, LOL.  Some recognizable items, such as Ancient Greek Sandals and Caroline K tunics, but some rare designs as well - Yvonne S kaftans and Gigi Clozeau to name a few.

Every seat is a good seat!

The open kitchen displaying some of the fresh ingredients using that day.

The view from lunch.

After lunch, more shopping.  La Troupe, a bohemian oasis is filled with beautiful embroidered shirts, bags and pillow cases.

My favorite stop of the day: Coqui Coqui.
The much publicized boutique hotel (it has only 7 rooms!) was simply stunning.

Parking for your car in Tulum is tricky, due to the very narrow single street, but bike parking is plentiful!

Stone entry to the Hotel.

View from drinks on the beach.

The Boutique! Filled with Coqui Coqui perfumes, candles, and accessories.

Under the Tuscan Sun...

Topping my destination dream list... Hotel Il Pellicano in Tuscany.
Designed as a Tuscan farmhouse built along the costal cliffs, and inspired by the San Ysidro Ranch in California, the hotel has hosted a slew of notable guests such as Jackie Kennedy and her sister Lee Radziwell, Sophia Loren and designer Emilio Pucci.

Aerin Lauder visited earlier this summer with her family, photographed on one of their signature yellow and white striped towels.

In the meantime, we can all just swoon over their beautiful picture book celebrating its famed history.

Leather on my mind...

It is sad to admit, but jacket weather is right around the corner.
One item of clothing that I have debated over for many seasons is the leather jacket.
Will I like this for more than a season?  Can I get away with wearing a leather jacket and not look silly?
After much deliberation I think I am ready to bite the bullet.  I envision wearing one draped over my shoulders on cooler nights in early Fall, and transitioning nicely into one of the many layers we need to wear to survive the current NYC winters.
I look for the below Etoile Isabel Marant jacket on every shopping trip, and have kicked myself for not acting fast enough when it has gone on sale.

This oversized version from Acne Studios was all the rage last season; the classic shape, shearling lining, and the unexpected: it came in navy!

Finally, the piece-de-resistance, the Balenciaga; the mother of all leather jackets.

Decisions.... decisions...
