Refine Method
Started in 2010 by a former dancer with the New York City Ballet and Harvard alum, Refine sets to break the notion that one workout will produce ultimate results, and enforces the need to break a sweat.
The 60 minute class is made up of several circuits of cardio (jumping jacks, jumping rope, jogging in place), and weights (lunges with kettle bells, upper body work using pulleys, push ups and planks). You are in constant motion for 50 minutes straight (the last 10 minutes of class are for stretching). Loud, dance music plays, which is a nice distraction and makes the class seem to go by quickly.
Named NYC's "Smartest Workout", it was by far one of the hardest classes I have taken yet. The class is very fast paced, designed to keep your heart rate up, but can be difficult to keep up. The circuits definitely target multiple muscle groups, and works as a full body workout.
Would I go back? Maybe. While this was not my favorite workout, I do see the potential for results.
