Two things...

 Two pieces on my radar...

Tory Burch hook-and-eye tunic.  Her Fall collection was one of my favorite shows of the season.  Very lady-like, familiar pieces that always feel appropriate.  I love the idea of this tunic paired with slim black pants, a long silk skirt, paired over a knit for day... the options are endless.

This Theory dress looks like nothing special on the hanger. But on, it is CHIC.  The mixed materials add depth and movement.  Pair it with a belt, or go crazy a cardigan and a belt, and you are out the door.  What I like most is that this piece works for daytime just as much as evening.  A true closet workhorse.

New again...

Admittedly, this is not the best photo of Uma Thurman at Cannes last May, but her dress!  Drop waist black jacquard - I own a dress very similar!  Uma's is by Dior, mine is not.  This dress has been in the 'what do I do with this?' pile for a few months now.  It needs to be tailored, and I repeatedly asked myself if I would wear it again.  Seeing this style paired with flats and a cropped jacket, brings a whole new life.  It doesn't seem as fussy or stale.   This dress just cut the line to be altered next.

CBK does black tie...

With a black tie event on the horizon at the end of the month, I thought I had my dress planned out.  Then this image of CBK in a classic white shirt and long skirt popped up.  Elegant, timeless, unfussy, my outfit might be changing.   Her simple hair and make-up are always an inspiration.

Fab 5...

Keep it Chic, one of my favorite fashion follows, polled her readers as to what their favorite purchases of 2023 were.  I thought this was such a fun idea that I decided to put mine here.

1. Weekend MaxMara cashmere sweater.  A departure from my usual black, and incredibly warm. I constantly reach for this piece.

2. Barbour quilted jacket.  The style is longer, feeling more sophisticated, and instantly elevates the most basic of outfits.

3. Is a side table a weird thing to have on this?  It is one of my favorite things.  I can't imagine not having this table next to my bed.

4. White jeans.  It had been years since I've worn them. Last Summer (and early Fall), I could not get enough of them.

5. Ulla Johnson silk pleated dress.  Purchased on a whim, and it delivered! It is navy (!), and works year round (!!).

Year in review...

I don't believe in resolutions, per-se. But, I do believe in self-awareness.  In 2023 I took stock of what I was buying,  using a simple list in my Notes app divided by month.  I fell victim to the after Holiday sales in January buying tennis dresses, skirts and tops, a cashmere sweater, jeans, workout leggings, and a cocktail dress.   As the months continued the items per month dwindled, in December I bought a book and an eyeshadow palette.  While I am far from perfect when it comes to this, I did buy some new favorite pieces.  And, I learned I have a weak spot for tennis clothing, tees from Target, and all pants.

A list is my friend.  Writing down what I have alongside holes/specific needs in my closet help to prevent thoughtless purchases.  I'm on a hunt for a black crewneck cashmere sweater, and will not settle for anything less than perfect.

This is an exercise I will bring into 2024. I like the list form.  I like the constant reminder.
