Spring Ahead... Day 1 of NYFW

We have barely unpacked our beach bag, and the Fashion world is already looking ahead to Spring 2014.  New York Fashion Week kicked off yesterday with quite a bang.  Already, even after just one day there are trends are already being formed.

Peter Som

Loving the stripes, and leopard brogues.

Marissa Webb

The self proclaimed 'tomboy in a tutu' showed effortless mixing of masculine and feminine elements.

Creatures of the Wind

Using modern fabrics with timeless silhouettes gave the collection a wearable feel.  A lot of pink and red have been shown on the runways so far, and move over Swarovski crystals, floral appliqués are the new embellishment of choice.  Shoes by Tabitha Simmons and the return of Missy Rayder on the runway made this the most buzzed about show of the day.

10 Crosby Derek Lam

Derek Lam just knows what women want to wear!

Tanya Taylor

TT put a twist on Breton Stripes and kept things bright and youthful with bold colors and intricate floral prints.

Veronica Beard

The CFDA Fashion Fund Finalists showed a more youthful collection than in seasons past.   Three dimensional leopard prints and graffiti-like florals and neoprene separates are a departure for the conservative brand.

Trends so far: midriffs, updated Breton stripes, graffiti florals, red, pastel pink (a continuum of Fall 2014), appliqué embellishments.

Stay tuned all month for updates from New York, London, Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks.
