Weekend reading...

A funny fashion week read.

Overdressed vs Underdressed.  I'm for the former, but a good debate.

Making this whipped feta is on my weekend to-do.

My favorite season is approaching, Cashmere season.

A reason I love tennis so much, it has its own wardrobe.

The great refresh...

Confession: I enjoy cleaning out a closet.  I like unearthing things I've forgotten about, organizing, and giving everything a proper home.   September is that time for me, to reasess what I have, what needs to leave, and any holes to fill in.
Habitually Chic has some great pointers on the topic.   And, a good read on how a closet cleanout is a mood booster!

Happy cleaning.

Summer... chapter 3

The middle of Summer flew.  Super humid days and rain made being outside a little tricky, but I checked most off the list!

Enter Chapter 3, the finale.

More tennis - both playing at watching the US Open.

Walk around the Hamptons towns - Flamingo Estate in East Hampton, Bloom in Sag Harbor, Cutter Brooks in Bridgehampton, Southampton in general.

Eat at Kiki's.

Ride a bike.

Visit more farmstands.

Birthday wishlist...

Another year around the sun.  This wishlist goes to show, classics never go out of style.

I carry a LL Bean tote every - single - day.  I love the idea of embroidering with something clever, but that is escaping me at the moment.

An August birthday means Fall clothing.  I remember one year getting a coat for my birthday, and it truly was the gift that kept on giving.  A La Ligne Mini Marin in tan/chocolate is high on my list.

Is it a sign of age that I'd really like a handheld steamer?  I hate to iron, but like things to look crisp.

August moodboard...

Weekend reading...

There are so many books on my list to read this summer.  This is the latest

More summer dresses (and what to wear under them!)

Wimbledon is one of my favorite events of the year.  I love to see what attendees are wearing on and off of the court.

Lately it has been either too hot to go outside, or raining.  If we do ever get to sit on a lounge chair again, a reference guide for post sun-care.

Cute sandals

What makes a sundress...

The Styles desk at the New York Times recently posed the question, What is a Sundress?  As my go-to uniform for Summer, I have some thoughts.  Most importantly it needs to be made of a natural fiber, cotton or linen.  Something that could ideally go in the washing machine, though some linings prevent this.   The shape is usually tighter on top with a fuller skirt.  Thought being, if one is wearing this is the sun you want something breathable, not something that is going to stick to you.  I don't tend to think of a sundress as having much of a sleeve, the ones above all have spaghetti straps, but a cap sleeve works.    For me a sundress is simple, no overbearing ruffles, obscure cut-outs,  or unnecessary quirks.  It enhances the wearers beauty - which is what every piece of clothing should do.

Honorable mention sundresses: this, this and this.

Weekend reading...

Truer words have never been spoken.

Keeping whites white is a challenge every Summer.

Always think I could be more organized

Fun fact: I love sunscreen.

I tried this hat on in Montauk, and am still thinking about it.

Summer... chapter 2

Summer so far has checked a lot boxes,

See a performance on Little Island. ✔

Go to a crab boil. ✔

Read three books. ✔

Visit the beach. ✔

Lots of tennis, wore pretty dresses, saw some great sunsets.

Chapter 2 has more in store for my Summer to-do:

Go out on a kayak.

Eat a Lobster Roll while looking out on the water.

See Swan Lake at the American Ballet Theater.

Get the olive oil and honey soft serve at Softside

Go on a hike.

Happy Summer!

A tisket a tasket...

I love all the raffia baskets!

A picnic ready basket bag?  Yes please!

At the tippy top of my birthday wish list this year - this rhinestone and raffia cutie from Rebecca de Ravanel.

This tote exudes South of France, when really you are just south of 60th street.

Woven cross-body perfection.

Just for fun - carries water, wine, or your keys and wallet!

On and off court...

A big reason why I love tennis so much, is the accoutrements.  Tennis clothing and accessories are so fun!

Julie Vos racquet stud earrings
Veronica Beard raffia hat
Ame & Lulu cotton sweatshirt
On 'Roger' court sneakers
Kule tennis tote

Summer ready...

It is here! The thing we wait all year for... Summer!

Tennis outside, afternoons spent by the pool with a book, cotton dresses, all things I am looking forward to.  Summer is broken into three chapters for me, Memorial Day, July 4th, and my birthday.

A few things on my list for chapter 1.

First up, Summer reads.  My photos are filled with screenshots of book recommendations.  A Hundred Summers and the new CBK tome are at the top of my weekend list.

Next, Little Island.  I am a bad New Yorker, and I have yet to go!  The man-made park off West 14th Street hosts concerts and events all season long.  First up a performance by legendary Twyla Tharp.

Summer of Seafood.  Fun fact, I love a food that requires a special tool, especially a mallet.  I've been looking forward to a Maryland Crab Boil for months.

With all this time outside, inevitably I will need some after-sun care.  My beloved Clinique after-sun has seemingly been discontinued.  The new Dior Solar looks worth a try.

The season of the breezy dress.  I know, black for Summer seems crazy - but I love it.  This dress from Dissh has been on my list for a while now - the page has been open on my laptop for weeks!   They also have a pretty white dress with bows!

Weekend reading...

The weather in the Northeast is all over the place, 80s one day, rainy and cold the next.   This weekend looks like more of the same.  A few things to keep me occupied while navigating temperatures.

The Lowell Hotel teamed up with Dior Maison for Lily of the Valley Afternoon Tea.   The flower was a favorite of the late designer, the gorgeous china patterns are reason enough to book a reservation.

While watching Be My Guest with Ina Garten, I began googling her gorgeous East Hampton home (and simultaneously cleaning my own kitchen).  Oprah Daily spoke to the Barefoot Contessa about her kitchen, what's in the pantry, and everything in-between.  Architect Frank Greenwald has additional images as well.

As if The Hamptons needed to be more ridiculous

What does Serena Williams think of the new Challengers film? I loved it!

Fingers crossed we are approaching outdoor dining season, here is a list to work off of.

Summer sandals...

My sandal wardrobe needs a refresh.  I don't think I bought any last year, and now it is time to fill in some holes.

At the tippy top of my list are these from Ancient Greek Sandals.  They will go with everything! And, also come in black.

For the third year, these are still on my list.   My favorite Jenni Kayne's have seen better days, and these might be their replacement.  I like the thicker sole for traipsing around NYC.

For weekends strolling from the tennis court to the pool.

The wild card.  Not a sandal, but... perfect paired with white cotton dresses and tennis whites.

 The benefits of floating!

More reason to get a good walk in everyday.

A girl can dream!  My eye is on the Chanel camera bag.

Love all...

I love all things Minnow.  Their selection, branding, imagery, all of it pulls me in hook, line and sinker!  The latest thing I'm obsessing over... their tennis bag!    Available in a Liberty-esque floral and a cabana stripe, such a cute addition to one's Summer tennis whites.

Ed note: they are deigned for junior racquets.  Dear Minnow, please make for adults!

Game, set, match...

My favorite season is fast approaching, outdoor tennis season!   In less than a month courts will be open, temperatures will be on the rise, and the fresh tennis outfits come out to play!  It is fact that a new dress at the beginning of the season helps your game.

Stripes...

To say I love a stripe is an understatement. Enter Kule, the Mecca for stripes.    One of my most favorite Kule tees suddenly feels a bit too big.  A replacement might be in order.

Spring fling...

This top is everything I love - textured, long, a touch whimsical (and has matching pants!)

At the top of my wishlist.

Chanel 11.12...

The Chanel AW24 show had a surprise this morning, a mini film with Brad Pitt and Penelope Cruz.  In just over a minute, the piece pays tribute to 1966's A Man and A Woman with a black quilted Chanel 11.12 handbag shining as the true star.

Weekend plans...

Jennifer Aniston gave us a peak into her glorious closet this week, which sparked a primal urge to purge and organize.

No space is safe.

This tab and this one have been open in my browser for months now... time to put to use.

If Cupid is reading... These pjs with red XOXO monogrammed would be cute.

Hearts...

Fun fact: I love Valentine's Day.  Whimsical hearts, pink and red candy, the general lack of seriousness about the day, makes February 14th A-Ok in my book.

Alaia heart... swoon.

Two things...

 Two pieces on my radar...

Tory Burch hook-and-eye tunic.  Her Fall collection was one of my favorite shows of the season.  Very lady-like, familiar pieces that always feel appropriate.  I love the idea of this tunic paired with slim black pants, a long silk skirt, paired over a knit for day... the options are endless.

This Theory dress looks like nothing special on the hanger. But on, it is CHIC.  The mixed materials add depth and movement.  Pair it with a belt, or go crazy a cardigan and a belt, and you are out the door.  What I like most is that this piece works for daytime just as much as evening.  A true closet workhorse.

New again...

Admittedly, this is not the best photo of Uma Thurman at Cannes last May, but her dress!  Drop waist black jacquard - I own a dress very similar!  Uma's is by Dior, mine is not.  This dress has been in the 'what do I do with this?' pile for a few months now.  It needs to be tailored, and I repeatedly asked myself if I would wear it again.  Seeing this style paired with flats and a cropped jacket, brings a whole new life.  It doesn't seem as fussy or stale.   This dress just cut the line to be altered next.

CBK does black tie...

With a black tie event on the horizon at the end of the month, I thought I had my dress planned out.  Then this image of CBK in a classic white shirt and long skirt popped up.  Elegant, timeless, unfussy, my outfit might be changing.   Her simple hair and make-up are always an inspiration.

Fab 5...

Keep it Chic, one of my favorite fashion follows, polled her readers as to what their favorite purchases of 2023 were.  I thought this was such a fun idea that I decided to put mine here.

1. Weekend MaxMara cashmere sweater.  A departure from my usual black, and incredibly warm. I constantly reach for this piece.

2. Barbour quilted jacket.  The style is longer, feeling more sophisticated, and instantly elevates the most basic of outfits.

3. Is a side table a weird thing to have on this?  It is one of my favorite things.  I can't imagine not having this table next to my bed.

4. White jeans.  It had been years since I've worn them. Last Summer (and early Fall), I could not get enough of them.

5. Ulla Johnson silk pleated dress.  Purchased on a whim, and it delivered! It is navy (!), and works year round (!!).
