Golden favorites...

Black, white and red - that was the theme, for the ladies, of last night's Golden Globes red carpet.
Some favorites:

Winner of the evening, Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior Haute Couture Fall 2013
*Editor note: I do wish she had worn a color, the last memory many have of Ms. Lawrence was at the 2013 Academy Awards wearing another white Christian Dior gown.

Also a Golden Globe winner, Cate Blanchett in Armani Prive Fall 2013

Nominee, Lupita Nyong'o in Ralph Lauren Spring 2014

Nominee, Kerry Washington in custom Balenciaga

New season...

A new season of award shows kicks off tonight with the Golden Globes.
Fingers crossed, style savvy nominees such as Cate Blanchette, Sandra Bullock, Amy Adams, Greta Gerwig, Lupita Nyong'o, Jennifer Lawrence, Taylor Schilling, and Kerry Washington bring their trademark whit, risk, confidence and glamour the red carpet!

A few things I hope to see tonight,

Refine...

Refine Method
Started in 2010 by a former dancer with the New York City Ballet and Harvard alum,  Refine sets to break the notion that one workout will produce ultimate results, and enforces the need to break a sweat.

The 60 minute class is made up of several circuits of cardio (jumping jacks, jumping rope, jogging in place), and weights (lunges with kettle bells, upper body work using pulleys, push ups and planks).  You are in constant motion for 50 minutes straight (the last 10 minutes of class are for stretching).  Loud, dance music plays, which is a nice distraction and makes the class seem to go by quickly.
Named NYC's "Smartest Workout", it was by far one of the hardest classes I have taken yet. The class is very fast paced, designed to keep your heart rate up, but can be difficult to keep up.  The circuits definitely target multiple muscle groups, and works as a full body workout.
Would I go back? Maybe.  While this was not my favorite workout, I do see the potential for results.

New routine...

Rut - noun, a pattern or habit of behavior that has become dull and unproductive
but is hard to change.

Confession: I am in a Soul Cycle rut.
Each Monday at noon the yellow bike calls my name - I can recite the settings on my bike with ease (seat height 13, second preset at 2, and handle bar height to the top), have certain bikes in each studio that I prefer, and follow certain instructors.
With a studio located just four blocks from my apartment in NYC, three locations near my parents' house in Westchester, and three locations in the Hamptons,
Soul Cycle is everywhere I am!

As part of New Year, New You - New Routine, every Saturday will be dedicated to something new.  A new class, out of my comfort zone, in efforts to establish a new routine.

What better way to prepare than with a new gym look!

Polar Vortex ...

The Northeast has been experiencing unseasonably cold weather lately, dubbed by local weather channels as the Polar Vortex effect.   Arctic weather calls for extreme layering.  Today's New York Times spoke about how practicality meets posh with fur lined parka's and Sorel boots.

The fashion word is in the midst of viewing the Pre-Fall 2014 collections, things that you want to wear now, but won't be available until next winter.
Today, Louis Vuitton showed one of my favorite collections for the season - showing city and country dwelling, in style.

Not only was I drawn to the plethora of 'Sophia' bags featured,
but one look included a pair of fur loafers.

Warm, versatile, and no socks needed.
Take that Polar Vortex!

New home...

January is often considered a personal detox month.
Flush the debauchery and desserts of December out with a juice cleanse;
Dust the cobwebs off of your Nikes and hit the gym;
Download the top 5 books NYTimes bestseller list and read.

This detox mentality can also translate to your home.
Turn off your overhead lighting, and add soft lamps to warm up a room.

The base is white ceramic with houndstooth inlay, paired with a classic black and white shade, it is a welcome addition to any bedside table.
$199 each on OneKingsLane.com

Add a rug - your old room will look new with a fresh floor covering.

This flat weave rug is neutral in color, complementing both contemporary and traditional rooms. The simple design also works well as a layering piece (over a sisal rug perhaps).
starting at $445 on OneKingsLane.com

Extra seating, an end table, a pair make-up a bench at the foot of the bed -
the uses for x-ottoman's are endless.

Made of jute linen, the blue stripe adds a feel of the French countryside to the piece.
$259 each on OneKingsLane.com
