Gifts galore...

The season is upon us!
Christmas decorations are up, gift guides are out, and somehow Black Friday sales have begun.

These little gift tags are my absolute favorite.
It doesn't matter what is inside the box, these little guys are the cutest!

Stay tuned for my picks for the gifts of the season.

Grandmillennial...

Clary Bosbyshell

Grandmillennial - noun - mid-20s to late-30s generation with an affinity for design trends considered 'stuffy' or 'outdated' by mainstream culture, including ruffles, embroidered linens, wicker, chintz, and needlepoint.  (House Beautiful, 2019)

I've found my niche!  As a forever lover of scalloped lampshades, upholstery of all kinds (can I upholster myself?!), trim, and D. Porhault linens, it makes me so happy to see such gorgeous images floating around.  It is a refreshing and much needed departure from the stark Scandinavian trend that overstayed it's welcome (thanks hygge).  I'll be ear-marking for future home inspiration.

Tented ceilings for the win!

Chintz, the best floor lamp, and grosgrain trim stripes, a glorious combination.

When you are the trend...

Some might think this is a funny follow up to a post about yearning for a gold sequin dress, but I see some parallels.  Over the weekend the NY Times published a piece about investment fashion - articles of clothing that shun trends and focus on longevity.  I couldn't agree more.  With the rising cost of clothing and accessories, and the shuttering of bricks and mortar shops, buying clothing is harder than ever.  Fashion fashion is thrust in front of our faces, free shipping, low prices, but then what?
If I have learned anything over the past year, it is to buy what you love.  If an item doesn't spark a ting of excitement, return it.  Invest in pieces that you love and will wear forever. That is what fashion is.

Sale, sale, sale...

Sale season has begun!  MatchesFashion is kicking things off early this year.

One of the best things I purchased at the end of Summer sale was a black eyelet top and skirt combination from Ganni.  Worn together as a complete look, or separately, these became my go-to pieces well into October.

Now a Winter version is 40% off at MatchesFashion.  The tie-neck blouse and skirt, worn together or apart, pack a punch.

And, note the shoe!

Sequins...

I cannot get enough sequins at the moment.
I don't recall ever wearing a sequin before, but I am itching to wear them for the holiday season.
Call me crazy, but I think the below dress is so versatile.
Hear me out. I think I could wear this to three events in December.
Event #1: New Year's Eve: Perfect for black tie. Add a chic heel, and you are done.
Event #2: Weeknight holiday dinner with friends: Imagine paired with a chunky knit, either this or this, and an over the knee boot. I think it works... subtly festive.
Event #3: Saturday night holiday cocktail party: I love the idea of pairing with a flat or a kitten heel, you are on your feet so much at cocktail parties.  To offset some of the sequins pair with a cardigan and a velvet bow.
Bonus Event #4: Christmas day! My family knows me well enough, if I show up in sequins, no one will bat an eyelash.

Even on sale this dress is an investment piece.  Finger's crossed that MatchesFashion has a sale on sale happening soon!

Shoeday Saturday...

A party shoe if there ever was one.
Now on markdown at Saks Off-Fifth.
My size is the only size available - is it a sign?

Sneaks...

Should I like these?
Mind you, this is an adult shoe.  An adult velcro shoe.
I recently saw a woman wearing the sneakers in black, a woman older than myself, and thought 'wow, you look very chic'.
Would I run around the city in something like this? Errands, walks in the park, as opposed to my trusty checkered Vans?  I don't know.

Shoeday Saturday...

I'm on a total boot kick over here.
Things should start going on sale over the next two weeks,
updating my wishlists as we speak.

Pretty bath...

Just a pretty bath.
That's all.

I absolutely adore Athena Calderone's townhome in Brooklyn.
See more of the bath here and the home here, she has one of my all time favorite kitchens.

Carolyn the Great...

Carolyn Murphy is my ultimate style icon.
She always reads as being true to herself - not overly fussy or trendy.  She exudes style and sophistication, from her hair, to her make up (thank you, Estée Lauder), to her clothing.
At the CFDA Awards on Monday night, she is photographed wearing, I believe the new line from Thakoon, the designer photographed to the right.
Her navy slip dress is timeless and elegant, a true force of fashion.

Sweet dreams...

There is nothing better than crawling into a white fluffy bed.  Like a hotel, but at home.  A longtime fan of Matouk linens, I have long admired their Lanai collection.  The pique scallop design adds texture and softness.
Now the big question, to monogram the shams or not?

On the note of linens and monograms, founder of Leontine Linens, Jane Scott Hodges' tome Linens: For Every Room and Occasion, offers gorgeous visual inspiration and practical information on caring for your linens.

Farrow & Ball...

The Farrow & Ball skit on SNL over the weekend was laugh-out-loud funny!
Aidy Bryant's character really gets it.
More on the skit at House Beautiful.

Missing piece to the puzzle...

I have long loved the JW Anderson for Loewe puzzle bag. The shape, size, long cross body handle, it checks off all the boxes.  I have the shape flagged on The Real Real, but they sell super fast.
Last Spring I saw the 'Marine' puzzle at the brand preview and fell in love! Stripes on my favorite bag! A true match made in heaven.

Shoeday Saturday...

Weirdly, I have been super into the idea of a suede cowboy boot this season.  Maybe because they were all over the Fall runways.
While I decide if these are worth the investment,
I am going to try out this Zara find at a fraction of the cost.

Cardigan season...

Confession: I can't stop buying sweaters.
In particular cardigans - they are all that I want to wear lately;  With dresses, with jeans, with everything!
I just purchased this from Ulla Johnson (she has some of the best knits of the season), and this from LoveShackFancy (I wanted one last year and was not fast enough).
Now, I just need the weather to get a little colder in order to wear these!
