Weekend reading...

They say there is some sort of game on this weekend,
but, I'm looking forward to the BAFTA's on Sunday!

Cassandra Grey, aka Violet Grey, opens up to the LA times about the business she built, and her plans for growth.  I won't judge if you place an order on Violet Grey after reading, she has that effect!

Was January as long for you as it was for me? Maybe a little sage will help February along.

Things to look forward to: Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick on stage together in Plaza Suite.

A look back at the best part of the Super Bowl: the Halftime Shows!

In need of a winter pick-me-up?

It's a cinch...

Belts are an ehh accessory for me.  Sometimes I like them, most of the time I don't.  Currently, I am in a like them phase.  A belt paired over a blazer is one of my favorite looks, so chic and breathes new life into a generic outfit.
Virginie Viard featured belts on the  Chanel couture runway earlier this month,  and whatever Virginie says is gospel.
Sadly, I missed out on the tiger print belt from Carolina Herrera this season.  I'll be searching re-sale sites for it, and looking out for the spring version!

Sleepy...

Sometimes it is the little things, like cozy slippers at the edge of your bed.
Jenni Kayne's shearling slippers are the peak of chic.
You will want to leap out of bed into them.

Damsel in a closet...

Things that make me happy: Closets and Kitchens.
Maybe because both are so uniquely personal, I love to peek into these spaces.  This closet, from Damsel in Dior, is a good one.  Shallow drawers (as to not loose anything), plenty room to hang everything, and even a little seat to try on shoes. It is well thought out and certainly a spot that makes you smile.

Dining room chic...

My love for a beautifully set table grows deeper by the day.  These plates are on my wishlist, and I added to my collection of Tiffany blue over the holiday.  One of my favorite interior designers, CeCe Barfield Thompson, recently moved, and hosted a dinner for the American Ballet Theatre in her new dining room.  The space is pure perfection, fabric stripe walls accented with grosgrain ribbon, framed lacquer colors, and traditional chandelier.  The table is set with Royal Copenhagen lace pattern and gorgeous silver.

The new JLaw...

Jennifer Lawrence never really made an impression on me.  Yes, she was fantastic in Joy and Silver Linings Playbook, but style-wise nothing particular comes to mind.  Well, that has changed.  She recently hired mega-stylist Kate Young (Margot Robbie, Dakota Johnson, Michelle Williams, to name a few), and her overall look has improved dramatically.  Her hair-color is gorgeous, she seemingly has a brand new wardrobe filled with The Row - this coat, loafers -  and an adorable Alexander Wang satin clutch.  Her look is modern sopisticated - neutral tones in classic shapes, very elegant and tasteful.  Finger's crossed she attends a red carpet soon, I'm dying to see what Kate Young will put her in.

Chanel at the SAGs...

My favorite look on the SAG silver carpet: Margaret Qualley, from Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, and daughter of Andie MacDowell.  She has worn Chanel on a few red carpets this season, and it truly suits her (no pun intended).  This Pre-Fall 2020 look is one of the first showcased from Virginie Viard's solo collection for the house.  For Pre-Fall, Viard channeled Coco's iconic apartment at 31 rue Cambon featuring embroidery unique to Chanel and her famous camellia flowers.

Schitt's Creek...

The Northeast is expecting a 'wintery mix' tomorrow.
Perfect excuse to binge watch television.  My best binge to date: Schitt's Creek. I love the Rose family! The wardrobe is sublime, humor is on point, and characters are unique and alluring.  My favorite character, Moira Rose, the matriarch; her unique accent, hilarious charm, and her wigs!

To write, or not to write...

The world is divided: Digital vs Paper.
One side keeps color coded calendars on their phone/laptop/ipad, the other jots everything down in a hardcover book.
I am team both - there is something about a gorgeous new agenda on your desk, and having a space to write down last minute notes.  But, I see the appeal of having everything in a digital space, your calendar is always with you and is less cluttered.
I have one more week to decide if 2020 is the year of forgoing the paper agenda... it is hard when there are so many chic options out there.

Back in stock...

I simply adore Brock Collection.
Their collections exude modern femininity, with timeless elegance.  I've worn my floral lace dress on my birthday for the past two years!
I bought and returned this black poplin dress this past spring, and always had pings of regret.  It is back in stock, and on sale, on Net-a-Porter.

Lounge lizard...

No catchphrase, or groundbreaking trend here.
Just a simple, comfortable, forever lounge set.  So chic that you may never want to change out of them.

Chair love...

My love for upholstery is not a secret.
I also adore interior designer, Miles Redd.  His rooms are thoughtful and whimsical; classic but never boring.  His collection of fabric and wallpaper with Schumacher is such a strong collaboration.  The designs are clever and fit in any space.  The "deconstructed stripe" print is a personal favorite - just enough pattern to make a bold statement.

Shoeday Saturday...

Isabel Marant can do no wrong in my opinion.
This shoe has been on my radar all season.
I think they are so fun, and look comfortable.
Bonus: they are on sale.

Sale finds...

Sale season has gone on for what seems like a year,  and no complaints here.  I've picked up a few forever pieces this season (this and these). Here are a few things I have my eye on for further discounts.

A wide leg trouser that is not black.  The deep green hue pairs well with almost everything in my closet.

A cozy neutral sweater.  One of my favorite styling tricks is pairing a sweater over a dress, imagine this over an evergreen floral frock.

Scuba leggings, a true gem for frigid winter days. Wishing I had these today!

The jewelry sale at Moda Operandi is on fire.  These earrings are a steal, and have my eye on this necklace and might have to order this ring.

Mini Loewe gate bag - yes please!

Things to look forward to: A pretty dress and the best sandal.

Coat search...

Confession: I have a lot of coats.
Camel statement coat, navy belted coat, toggle coat, you get the drift.
The common theme, they are all wool, i.e. not for snowy weather.
I have a water repellant raincoat, but is this something you wear in the cold and snow? I don't know.
This quilted coat from Toteme is probably not as weather appropriate as I would like it to be, but it tops my list of things to add to my repertoire.
I also like this from Patagonia, and this from Moncler

The search continues...

It's a New Year...

Do you believe in resolutions?  For the longest time I didn't.  I thought they were silly.  But then I made one, and stuck to it.  Last year I vowed to use what I have... what am I saving it for?  Properly setting the kitchen table for meals with cloth napkins!  Wear the dresses in my closet on uneventful errands. Use the things that have been passed down to me, rather than let them collect dust.  While my track record is not 100%, yet, last year established a new normal.  I do a lot of dishes now, and laundry, and am more aware of things that I want vs. need.
My goal for 2020 is to keep doing what I'm doing, to not entertain fast-fashion outlets, and to limit the pizza deliveries.
