Elephant sighting...

Maybe it is all the time spent at home, three meals a day, infinite video calls, moving from chair to couch to bed all day long, but I cannot get enough of quirky home items.  I would love to add a set of these charming gingham table linens to my collection, or a set of these stripe cuties, any one of these beautiful painted pieces, imagine dining on plates from the Ivy, and this adorable end table.  I have no idea where I would put it, but I have favorited at least eight versions of this little guy on Chairish recently.

Bookshelves...

Bookshelves are the new Zoom backgrounds.  Now with constant views into peoples homes, suddenly backgrounds matter.   Everyone on your video call is examining what is behind you -  what books are on your bookshelf? What paint color is on the wall?  Are those flowers real or fake?
Some clever being has dedicated a twitter account to rating news anchors backgrounds!
The NY Times has tips on organizing bookshelves, and a few ideas for books to fill them with.

Barefoot Contessa...

I am so grateful that I got to experience the Barefoot Contessa in person.  I remember the chocolate cupcakes for my birthday from there, and the gorgeous french baguettes in baskets, it was gorgeously charming.
Her cookbooks remain my go-to's, many pages stained and dog-eared, her Lemon Pound Cake is simply perfect.
Here is a snippet of Ina in conversation with Anna Quindlin at the 92Y from 2011.

The dream kitchen...

Nancy Meyers has created some of the best kitchens on film, Somethings Gotta Give, The Holiday, It's Complicated... it is no surprise that her own kitchen is a dream.   I've zoomed in quite a bit to try to identify what she has on her counters.

In the foreground I spy a white Staub cocotte on the stove and a Simplex tea kettle.  Whole Foods olive oil sits next to La Baleine sea salt.  Numerous bowls of gorgeous California produce, fresh flowers on every surface.
The Mountain Valley spring water rests on a wicker tray.
I can only hope for more screenshots into Casa Meyers!

What will Summer bring?

Usually around this time I would be adding extra Soul Cycle classes to my routine, and adding extra laps around the block, in anticipation of Summer.
This year, it is slightly different as I just sat down to a bowl of pasta for lunch.

I still get pings of excitement about Summer - the sweet smell of sunscreen, sandals, rosé, bathing suits, beach dresses, basket bags, all of my favorite things.  What will Summer look like this year?  Will beaches be open? Pools? Will we be making our own lobster rolls?  And, if things do open, will we want to go?

This whole tangent began because I spied the above dress on instagram, and thought to myself 'Wouldn't that be cute for Summer!"

Dior games...

It is true, creativity is shining thru at the moment.  None exemplifying this more than Dior.  They are not sending emails about 'quarantine wardrobes' or 'sale, sale, sale', rather, they are sending games!  Memory, 8 Differences, and a virtual tour of their Paris exhibit.  Bravo Dior!

This is one of the spot the differences games, more images here.
Can you spot all 8?

Warmer temperatures...

It is getting warmer out.   My uniform of a cashmere sweater and coat, is becoming too toasty.  I am not a fan of cotton sweaters, never have been. So what is a girl to do?  This Tory Sport chevron sweatshirt looks fun and chic for my grocery runs!

Shoeday Saturday...

Spotted recently on Mark D. Sikes instagram, the Adidas blue/white stripe slide spoke to me.  The perfect 'house shoe' now, from pajamas to when/if one decides to actually get dressed.

Friday florals...

We made it! We survived another week.
Did you bake anything fun?  Go on a socially distant walk?
I have set my table more than I like to admit now.   I am sick of looking at my white plates and blue & white napkins.  I'm craving a little color and pattern.
Zara Home has some great budget friendly table fixes.

Smocked...

Smocking: noun, decoration on a garment created by gathering a selection of the material into tight pleats and holding them together with parallel stitches in an ornamental pattern.

For her namesake Resort 2020 collection, Miucia Prada send glorious smocked dresses and tops down the runway.  Whimsical prints on cotton poplin felt both nostalgic and modern.  When we are all in search of a bit of fun at the moment, I recommend adding a little smocking to your day.

Check out the EJT shop for some of my favorites.

Pantry...

Confession: I love to clean. I do, order makes me happy.

In January, as part of my New Year clean out, I organized my pantry.  Living in NYC I do not have a true pantry, like those seen on Pinterest.  I had  a few things stored here and there, but there was not a solid system in place.   My goal was to rectify that.   The Home Edit brings me such organizational joy.  Seeing an edited, organized space makes me happy.
The above was my finished product in January, it is slightly fuller now with my kitchen working harder than ever!  I moved bulk items into mason jars, that I already had, and bought two lazy susans.
organized the top shelf as the baking shelf - flour and sugar in large glass canisters, confectioners sugar, chocolate chips, et cetera in clear mason  jars.
The middle shelf is for grains and beans - quinoa, brown rice, couscous, chick peas, lentils.  The labeled glass jars let you know when you need to replenish.
The bottom shelf is for things I use the most - oils, vinegars, honey, stock.  I admit, I never fully understood the lazy susan, but now I get it.  Finding various oils, vinegars, salts and peppers with ease, not digging around, is fantastic!

The New York Times has a new section called At Home, highlighting things to do, see, listen to while we are all homebound.  Last week, I believe, they discussed creating an orderly pantry.  Wondering what Ina stocks her pantry with in a pandemic, Food52 identifies it all!

Happy Organizing!

Liberty...

Liberty in London is one of my favorite stores.
The iconic Tudor houses designer fashions and one of a kind gems.   Their selection of Astier de Villate, my favorite, is one of the largest I have seen. By far, my favorite space is their fabric room.  The bright, cheery, fanciful prints bring immediate smiles to faces, something we all need right now.
Lettermade has a selection of Liberty print cocktail and dinner napkins on their site.  The cheery prints add pizzaz to any table!

Hoppy Easter...

Is it weird if I order these plates and these napkins for next year,
Or just to bring some joy next week?

I'm not shopping...

but if I were, there are some sales (and some fingers crossed for sale) happening:

I have been living in my La Ligne sweaters during stay-at-home.  They are the perfect piece to throw on for an unexpected FaceTime, and cozy for an afternoon movie binge.  This pastel version caught my eye.  I guess because we are essentially missing Spring, color appeals to me now.

Rosie Assoulin is offering 20% off the entire site at the moment.
The tote/basket bag is included!

This lariat is a nice placeholder for the Foundrae necklace that is on my wishlist.

I go back and forth from wanted to wear full sweatsuits and gorgeous colorful kaftans.  I feel like the kaftans will always win out. Plus, they will work for post-quarantine when none of my pants fit!

It is not all color all the time now, there is still a black dress at the top of my wishlist!  I wanted this before Corona, and I'll want it after, a true closet staple!

Arbre de Matisse...

The best for last!
My most favorite, Quadrille China Seas Arbre de Matisse reverse.  I could/would/wish I lived in this print. I'm partial the the blue hues, but really I would take any.   It is the print that keeps on giving!

Leaf...

Katie Ridder is an interior designer with her own line of papers and fabrics.  I've long loved her whimsical prints, the leaf in particular.  Available in twelve color ways, the paper works in any area of your home.  Calming enough for a bedroom, bold enough to leave an impression in a powder room.

Martinique...

The iconic banana leaf print, synonymous with the Beverly Hills Hotel,  designed in 1942 by decorator Don Loper.  Throughout the years the print has popped up elsewhere, Indochine in NYC, the Colony Hotel in Palm beach, but will always make me think of the pink hued Beverly Hills Hotel.  Martinique is not for the faint of heart, it is a a large scale print, ideal for a long hallway or a sun room.
Until we can all get on a plane to California, we are stuck watching Troop Beverly Hills and Funny Girl, both filmed at the hotel.

Additional color ways available here.

Nuvolette...

I've expressed my love for Bowood, Les Touches and Espalier before, and they remain at the top of my list for my dream house one day.
Today, let's look at Fornasetti for Cole & Son, 'Nuvolette'.
Personally, I love this in a small powder room, or library.  Such a calming print while soaking in the tub, or lounging with your latest book club book.

Pierre Frey, Toiles de Nantes...

Let's talk fabrics!
A much needed break from sneakers and sweats, let's focus our attention on pretty fabrics.  One outcome of Covid-19 that I am ok with, the sneak peeks into peoples homes.  Jimmy Fallon's Hamptons home looks like a fun house, exactly where one would picture him to live (of course he has an indoor slide).  Photographer, and personal style muse, Claiborne Swanson Frank is giving a glance into her new, gorgeously decorated, Greenwich home.
CSF showed her gorgeous bedroom last night adorned with the iconic Toiles de Nantes fabric from Pierre Frey.
If this print looks familiarMario Buatta was a fan too!

My love for all over pattern remains, I love how it makes the room seem thought out and complete.  That mentality especially applies to Toiles de Nantes.  A room filled with the wave-like pattern is purely sublime, it really is its own best accent.

If the print is too much for you to use in an entire room, the fabric still makes an impression as an accent chair and couch!

Weekend reading...

Need a break from the News: binge these shows for interior design distraction.  The Politician and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel are my favorites.

My goal every week is to figure out an at-home workout that I want to do.  Maybe this is worth a try.

Healthy Banana Oat muffins are on the to-bake list,

Lastly, stop trying to be productive! There is no need to overachieve in a global pandemic.

Masks...

The CDC is now recommending for Americans to wear masks when venturing outside of their homes.  Just when we thought things couldn't get scarier or more unnerving.

Designer Karen Kane has turned leftover cotton fabric into masks. With every mask purchased, a mask will be donated to a healthcare worker in need.  The masks are not medical grade, but are washable and reusable.
I just ordered mine, and you should too!
For crafty readers, The New York Times gives a step-by-step to making your own out of tea towels.
Stay safe, stay home.

Spring spruce...

You learn a lot about yourself during times like this.  I have learned that, almost, all of my table linens are white.  This was probably deliberate, in attempts to work with any decor and was probably something that I read somewhere.  Now, I am realizing, while setting a table for one, it looks a little stark and sad.
For the first time I am craving color.
I bought pink and orange tulips the other day, in a complete departure from my white and green rule.
I even want color on my plate - I cannot eat enough greens, clementines, sweet potatoes, bright cheery food.

Maybe if the Easter Bunny is reading, in lieu of candy this year, he can put this gorgeous tablecloth and napkins from India Armory in my basket (or just set the table for me)!

New Uniform...

By my count, I am on day 21 of quarantine/staying home/staying safe, whatever you would like to call it.
I have baked, watched TV, completed puzzles, and Zoomed.
My wardrobe has also adapted to a new normal, hooded sweatshirts.  Yes, you read that correctly, I wear sweatshirts now.  Just before this all happened I was gifted a new hooded sweatshirt from Rowing Blazers, that I have been living in. I've also pulled out a RLX (RIP) soft hooded sweater and my Montauk sweatshirt (Summer!).  These are now in constant rotation.  I don't know what there is about the comfort of a hood, but it is working now.
I also like this version from Madewell, on sale, and from Etoile Isabel Marant - tie-dye and on sale, check, check!
